Bandmaster vs bassman4/24/2023 ![]() I have gotten way mucho gain with them though, with only simple cathode resistor/cap changes, tone stack changes and reworking the shared extra stage. It wasn't a master vol set up.ĭude, I was born in 1970 and believe me, my hands weren't playing around in Bassman heads quite yet. I'm sure he didn't change any iron but WTF do I know I was only 18.1 wire type mod? I do remember that both channels worked normally, though. I took a BF Bassman to a guy and $75 and a week later it was "hot wired" and man I tell you did it scream. NY Chief wrote:Andy, what were the popular hot rod mods back in the 70's? I know we talked about it a few times but I'm not talking about the Voodoo Lounge stuff. the variac softens the attack a little, but I think that was just a way of easing things up on the power tubes in the first amp. To my ears, VHII sounds like a 2203ish/plexi thing and WACF-1984 sounds like reamping minus whatever the hell was going on in the 1st album.Įxt speaker out or the C mod, you're gonna kill something, but coupled with reamping, from what I've heard, I think that's what Ed did early on.pure power tube distortion. IMHO, Ed slaved his amps and that little extra zip you here on the first album, just might be two NMV Marshalls with the 1st amp employing the C*****m mod. I think that might be the missing ingrediant to VH1, and how Ed employed what he heard in the Fenders.may be wrong on that though, but my ears tell me otherwise. 02 but I think you'ld be better off with two NMV Marshalls and re-amping.check out Mr. Ed claimed that he got a great tone at lower volumes, but killed his OT every few months. The mod itself is derived from an old ham radio trick. If Ed used the C****m mod at all, it's a possibility that this is where he got the idea.probably by someone like Jose putting 2 and 2 together for him. I've tried it, albiet with less success that Rob, but it ain't bad. As I understand it, going through the ext speaker out with nothing in the speaker out effectively shorts the OT primaries, much like the C****m mod does, which is why I think there may be some validity to Ed having used it early on.trying to recreate what he was getting at home with his Fender gear. Rgalipn has some sweet clips of reamping a Bassman into a Plexi.
